Hello, i’m new to this!

Hello,

i’m 28 years old and over the past year been navigating through my recent ADHD diagnosis.

I knew when I was a kid something was up, but my parents thought I was just a normal normal child. I am a sexual abuse victim and was abused when I was five. I always wanted to be at home with my mum and dad struggled a lot with separation anxiety. When I was in school, I did really well but I was always worried that if I failed my parents would be angry at me so I strive to do the best I could. later on in life, I found myself burning out very quickly lacking energy and focus. I had all these tests done to see whether I was just lacking vitamins but then over Covid. I started researching deeper and took the courage to tested for ADHD. At first. I felt relief then the relief turned to anger and now I’m finding a lot of emotions and memories and now coming to the surface and I’m now worried that I will lose family and friends because I cannot control my emotions. Sometimes I am very picky with who to come to When I’m feeling upset, I usually turn to my best friend and it’s getting to the point where she’s getting worried about me and I’m feeling that her family is trying to steer her away from me Because of my actions. Sometimes I feel very lonely and experience severe emotions for days or even weeks. I am medicated on anti depressants and on the natural side for other supplments [edited by moderator].. Is there anyone else on this forum that is on the same road as me at the moment? If so, I would love to connect.

Hi there @Disney2306 ,

Welcome to the forums. I am sure there are many who can relate to what you are sharing. I'm sorry to hear things have been so hard for you in the past.

I can hear the whole mix of emotions you experienced once you found out your diagnosis. I can see that even then, it has been a bit of a rough trot for you.

Please know you are not alone.

I wonder if you'd be interested in connecting with others in our ADHD Community? A good start is here: Wait what did I come into this thread for again? Oh yeah, ADHD!

What are some things you enjoy doing?

Re: Hello, i’m new to this!

Hi @Disney2306,

Welcome to the forum and thank you very much for sharing.

I'm sorry that you have had so much happening, I can only imagine how distressing it has been for you. I can see how isolating these extreme emotions are for you and I can sense how worried you are.

I don't have much experience with ADHD, but I can see that @tyme has already mentioned the brilliant post/thread which was started by @Jynx, which may be able to help point you in the right direction.

I hope that you find the support that you are looking for.

Wishing you all the best and looking forward to hearing from you,

Hi @Disney2306

Its takes a lot of courage to tell your story, so hats off to you.  There is so much pain in what you have written and dealing with all those emotions is extremely hard.  Have you spoken with anyone regarding the abuse, as given that it happened so early in your life, it could be playing a factor in everything you have done since.  There are some wonderful counsellors out there who can help you.

Am glad that you have that friend who you can speak with, friends always form the cornerstone of all recovery journeys.  Don't give up on the mdication, while it mightn't seem to be working, from a personal experience it does by knocking off the rough edges that we have to deal with on a daily basis.  Try and be nice to yourself, you are dealing with a lot, so give yourself time.   Take care 🙂

Hey @Disney2306 ,

How are you today? I'm thinking of you and wanted to check in.

Re: Hello, i’m new to this!

Thank you so so much!

Yes I’ve seeked help in the past however I’ve been through many psychologists and actually about to go see a psychiatrist and specialist.

Re: Hello, i’m new to this!

Hello thank you so much for checking in today’s been a bit rough as I had to deal with some conflict and of course went into self doubt but with the help of some amazing people I managed to get through.

Re: Hello, i’m new to this!

I hear you experienced self-doubt but amazing people helped you get through. Please also remember that your self-belief played a part in getting you through.

Re: Hello, i’m new to this!

Hiye @Disney2306

Am very happy to hear that you will be seeing a psychiatrist and specialist, as they say you are the expert on yourself.  Making those appointments means that you are taking charge of your own recovery, so well done you.  Cheering squad activated 🙂
