@A_Nonie-Moss I feel like some (many?) people go to the emergency department because they can't afford a GP or they need treatment straight away, even if they're not going to die. I can see how shame and distance from the hospital might deter you from going. The nurses and docs might be slightly annoyed, perhaps? But I'd say someone with a mental health condition that can't access required medication for whatever reason is a serious enough issue.

Another option is CATT - the crisis assessment and treatment team. https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/crisis-management who might be able to come to you.
